As an origin story, Ferry did grab my attention and piqued my curiosity to watch Undercover sometime in the future. Ferry ticks the appropriate boxes as a crime drama with shades of action, with Frank Lammers' tough-guy act leading from the front. The cast and the cinematography need to be applauded for pulling it off quite well. There's occasional humour, interesting-yet-familiar narrative beats, and adequate pacing. This has, of course, everything to do with Daniëlle (a bubbly Elise Schaap), a woman he randomly meets while on the job. We get to know more about Ferry in each scene (I can't recall a scene where he isn't present) - he is definitely a grey-shaded human but we root for him because his heart is in the right place. What happens when Ferry Bouman (with a troubled childhood) returns to his native place to locate a rival gang and finish them off? There are certain formulaic elements at play, but director Cecilia Verheyden and writers Nico Moolenaar and Bart Uytdenhouwen never let viewer attention go astray. I'll definitely watch this again.Ī prequel to the Dutch Netflix series "Undercover" (that I haven't watched), Ferry is an engaging gangster drama that tells a rather predictable story. If Undercover continues (and I hope it will), we don't know if Ferry will make another appearance, so this is potentially us saying goodbye to him. Frank Lammers imbues a character that could very easily have been a two dimensional monster with a degree of sympathy. It's brutal in places, as we've come to expect from Undercover, but there are also touching moments and humour too. Chronologically you could watch this before watching Undercover, but I liked the fact that I already knew aspects of Ferry and Dani prior to watching this and Filip's cameo is definitely funnier. Instead Ferry is placed front and centre and we get a great backstory to the events that ultimately led to him being investigated in Undercover. Yes, some major characters from Undercover are missing, but given that this is a prequel set a good few years before season one, it wouldn't make sense for them to be present. If you aren't already familiar with Ferry from that series, you might not be as excited about this film, but if you enjoyed the series you won't feel let down by this movie prequel. Overall a solid film a must see for fans in 'Undercover' and highly recommended for fans of gangster movies.Īdmittedly this film is probably very much one for the fans of Undercover. There is a decent amount of action, and, even though we know certain characters must survive because they are in the series, it is tense at times. The cast did a solid job especially Frank Lammers and Elise Schaap as Ferry and Danielle. For me that is a good thing, films that try to be bigger than the series they are based on tend to feel too different. The story has the same feel as the series. Ferry was a great character in 'Undercover' so it is fun to see how he got to where he was in that series in particular it was great seeing how he met Danielle and how his involvement with her ultimately introduces him to the possibilities of entering the ecstasy business. I found this to be a solid gangster film. He also meets other familiar characters some for the first time, others he knows well. This leads to another name a man staying at a campsite in Belgium here he meets the woman who viewers of 'Undercover' know will become his wife. He identifies one of those involved and tracks him down. Ferry promises to find those responsible and eliminate them. During the robbery Brink's son is shot and seriously wounded. One day a gang attacks the property where Brink's has his money stored. Ferry works as enforcer for a crime boss named Ralph Brink. Since this takes place before the series it is no necessary to have seen it first. This film is a prequel to Belgian/Dutch crime series 'Undercover' it shows how season one antagonist went from being an enforcer for an Amsterdam crime boss to being involved in the ecstasy trade.

Using Hook’s Check for App Updates and Update Scripts command also updates the scripts, without you needing to relaunch Hook. Hook’s automatic software update (if enabled) automatically updates Hook’s integration scripts without you needing to relaunch Hook. Thanks also to forum members who discussed this integration. We are very grateful to Greg Pierce of Agile Tortoise for continuing to enhance Drafts automation, which is leveraged by Hook. See Using Hook with Bookends Reference Manager by Sonny Software – Hook. In Bookends the bibliographical reference manager, Hook now also supports Reveal File in Finder even when the URL scheme is bookends://. In particular, we aim to rid Hook’s Draft’s Get Address script of UI scripting in favor of Draft’s automation. We will continue to update Hook’s integration with Drafts to take advantage of its automation. See Using Hook with Drafts for more information. Hook to New in Drafts now adds a “Hook” tag to the new drafts. Bookends allows for powerful group-based searches, with static, smart, and virtual groups. This requires versions of Drafts that support automation. Hook to New > Drafts now uses Drafts automation, rather than UI scripting. Hook Pro users who don’t like having a hyperlink in their Apple Notes can customize the integration: Hook > Preferences > Script Editor tab > Notes entry. MacOS 10.14 and macOS 10.15 lack a feature of Big Sur, so in their cases new notes have a plain text name followed by (on a new line) a hyperlink back to the source. ( Caveat emptor: merely UI-scriptable apps, like Ulysses, lack automation and won’t have this feature). We intend to adapt integration with other apps to behave in this way too – as long as they have sufficient automation. This is analogous to how Hook to New > OmniFocus already works, where it has proven to be quite popular. This gives you an extra way to navigate from the new note to the source item.īenefit: This provides a link that you can also use on iPad and iPhone ! (As long as the target of the link is reachable on those devices.) For example, if you create a link from the Hook – Find without searching website to a new Apple Note, the note’s name (in Big Sur) will be a hyperlink: Hook – Find without searching - rather than just a plain text label. The Hook to New Apple Notes command now inserts a hyperlink back to the source context (resource) in which you created the note. Hook-created Apple Notes now get links you can use on your iPad and iPhone ! Version 142 of Hook integration’s scripts is now available with updated support for Apple Notes, Drafts, and Bookends apps. Sam Bowden is a lawyer residing in New Essex, North Carolina, with his wife Leigh and 15-year-old daughter Danielle (known as "Danny"). It was nominated for several awards, including the Oscars and Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor (De Niro) and Best Supporting Actress ( Juliette Lewis). The film was a commercial success and received generally positive reviews from critics. The film tells the story of a convicted violent rapist who, by using his newfound knowledge of the law and its numerous loopholes, seeks vengeance against a former public defender whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment due to purposefully faulty defense tactics used during his trial.Ĭape Fear marks the seventh collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro. Robert Mitchum has a small role in the film, while Gregory Peck (in his final theatrical film role) and Martin Balsam make cameo appearances, all three having starred in the original film. The film stars Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Joe Don Baker, and Juliette Lewis. It is a remake of the 1962 film of the same title, which was based on the 1957 novel The Executioners by John D. The backwoods slasher The Everglades Killing was retitled Lake Fear 2: The Swamp (2018) by the distributor but is unrelated to this film in any way.Cape Fear is a 1991 American psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese. The nearest I could compare the film to is a no-budgeted attempt to replicate something like David Lynch’s almost entirely plotless final episode of the original Twin Peaks (1990-1) – the one spent running through the Black Lodge – albeit made by people who haven’t an ounce of Lynch’s talent. The most surreal moment is the scene involving demons engaged in a choreographed dance. There is not even any discernible plot in the latter two thirds of the film – it is just Michael Crum pulling shock effect after shock effect such that everything runs into an incomprehensible mass like a bad nightmare you can’t wake up from. The scenes with the girls investigating the noises, the portal/image projected on the wall and victims being dragged down into a pool of blood in the forest all have an ineptitude of execution. Not long after we arrive at the cabin, the film descends into an absurd horror show. (l to r) Jessica Dawn Willis and Shanon Snedden Not to mention that despite the retitling Lake Fear, there are no lakes anywhere in the film. Even the cabin in the woods is not a cabin in the woods but a farmhouse in the middle of an open field. There is one scene that has been ludicrously contrived for the sole purpose of having the four girls strip to their underwear in order to wade across a creek, while the relatively mundane crossing is absurdly pumped into a big drama with the addition of a ridiculously hyped musical score and really fake fog blowing across. The efforts show through with painful regard at times. We even get homage paid to Sam Raimi’s film in one scene with the playing of tape recordings from an academic who was researching the area. Michael Crum draws a good deal upon what has gone before – in particular, The Evil Dead (1981). The cabin in the woods plot is a well overused one in horror cinema. It was retitled by the distributor as Lake Fear for wider release. Cypress Creek was made on a budget of reportedly only $8000. Subsequent to Lake Fear, he made the horror films Anna (2017), Fall from Grace (2017) and Anna 2 (2019). Crum had previously made the micro-budgeted superhero web series Allegiance of Powers (2012-3) and subsequent to this conducted a film spinoff Allegiance of Powers (2016). Lake Fear/Cypress Creek was the directorial debut of Michael Crum, a young filmmaker based in Dallas, Texas. Vanessa Grimaldi getting a rose from Nick Viall on "The Bachelor." In my review of Halo Infinite, I anticipated what was destined to happen. I constantly find myself wondering what would have happened if the game had been delayed even three months, with 343 taking extra time to focus on co-op and Forge rather than building the runway while the plane was already in the air. It still feels good to play a round of Halo, regardless of the quality of life problems, but the game’s constant development left turns find it navigating around the same pitfalls. The core multiplayer shooting has always been a strong foundation, giving 343 more leeway with fans. Halo Infinite’s situation isn’t nearly as dire as any of those games. To date, the game still hasn’t received any originally promised story expansions and won’t until 2023. A promising road map was quickly foiled by a buggy launch that left the developer addressing a mountain of bugs. CD Projekt Red’s title isn’t a service game, but it’s one that was supposed to receive long-tailed support through DLC and updates. Instead, developer Crystal Dynamics found itself swamped by bugs. When the superhero game launched in September 2020, fans bought in expecting a steady flow of new heroes and content to make up for the base game’s thin endgame. Marvel’s Avengers is a notable case study. However, those plans never seem to anticipate the inevitable issues that arise when launching something as complicated as a live service game. Halo Infinite’s troubles seem to stem from a common issue that plagues many live service games: 343 Industries didn’t plan for the worst. The shooter finds itself in danger of stagnating as players impatiently wait for features that they expected to have at this point in the game’s life span. And of course, that’s if everything goes according to plan. Co-op isn’t set to arrive until August now and Forge won’t arrive until November at the earliest. Big Team Battle would remain broken for well over a month, with some of 343’s patches meant to correct the issue outright failing. Suddenly, players couldn’t load into the playlist at all, prompting a more urgent emergency response. Again, 343 acted quickly, tackling complaints like the game’s lack of playlists, but disaster struck when the game’s Big Team Battle mode broke. Fans began voicing their concerns with various parts of the game, calling for a slew of quality of life changes. It seemed like a simple enough change, but it kicked off a snowball effect. The studio quickly made tweaks to the way experience points are doled out over the course of multiple updates. That began immediately when the game launched, as fans took issue with the game’s slow battle pass progression.
